This liquid cooled, fuel injected four-stroke is the ideal intro to the ‘R’ series family. With the ability to cruise at highway speeds and return an average fuel consumption of around 45kms per litre, the R15 blends performance, reliability and low running costs. It is designed to appeal to riders looking for a practical motorcycle for every day riding that sports R-series trademark sharp looks.
Tech heads are well catered for with a 150cc liquid cooled and fuel injected engine slotting into a Deltabox chassis boasting linked monocross suspension. R15 bristles with state-of-the art technology also seen on the world’s best supersport bikes, such as a forged aluminium piston running in an all-aluminium DiASil cylinder which offers the benefits of light weight, great heat dissipation, less oil consumption and high levels of wear resistance.
The long swing arm design is a feature fed back from Yamaha's YZR-M1 MotoGP race machine and it is effective for ensuring outstanding rear tyre traction. It's cast in one piece by the gravity casting technique that enables a quality cast with great freedom in sectional thickness. The chain adjustment assembly at the end of the rear arm is the same type used on Super sports models to improve adjustment capability.
The newly designed midship muffler adds cadence to overall styling. It adopts a carbon-look pattern on the surface as well as a model nameplate to add to the high-performance image and the feeling of quality. The design of the end cap is also new.
Just like the YZF-R15's bigger brothers, there is a high-mounted radiator located between the R-Series inspired fairings for efficient cooling performance.
R-series style Deltabox frame forms the basis for riding comfort and performance. The synergy created by optimising longitudinal, lateral, and torsional rigidity delivers a solid riding feel as well as agile riding performance.
Fuel injected four-valve 150cc liquid cooled engine runs a forged piston and aluminium cylinder like its ‘R’ series brothers
YZF-R15 sports image is carried through to the cockpit where R-style analogue tacho, digital speedo, trip and fuel gauge inform the rider
A separate-section seat enables a better feeling of seat grip in sporty riding. This new seat design features a slip-resistant seat cover material, excellent cushion qualities, optimised shape for the inner thigh contact area and the cushioned front edge of the rear seat that supports the rider's rear.
YZF-R15 version 2.0 is equipped with a linked type monocross suspension that delivers a comfortable ride and a cushioning performance that is less prone to bottoming out.
A larger 220mm diameter rear disc brake has been adopted to achieve a better balance with the new rear 130mm rear tyre size and ensure good braking power and operability. This larger disc is coupled with the piston-slide type single-pot caliper.
